About

Hello, my name is Lucy

I love words.

I also enjoy punctuation, and I’m a fan of grammar when it doesn’t take itself too seriously. I find citation systems fun and I often read the index first.*

I am a former academic with a book and various articles in my published portfolio. I ran editorial administration for an international SSCI-indexed scholarly journal, so I know academic publishing from that side, too. I’ve worked in arts administration, in which capacity I read thousands of brochures, leaflets, programmes and adverts. I have a PhD in Drama from Royal Holloway, University of London, UK.

I am an entry-level member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), with whom I have trained, and continue to train as a proofreader.

In my spare time I write fiction. I have twice been shortlisted for the Mslexia Children’s Novel Prize, and I am a former winner of New Writing North’s Andrea Badenoch Fiction Prize.

*I like other things too, including camping, swimming, saunas, sunrises, dogs, cups of tea, Fountains of Wayne songs and the smell of rain on hot tarmac, but those things aren’t so obviously relevant.
